After the summer break, the North East Powerchair Football League got under way last Sunday at the Thornaby Pavilion. Our first game was against Bradford Hot Wheels a new team to the NEPFL. We didn’t get off to a good start with one of our chairs being unusable, meaning our regular goalkeeper Platt having to sit the game out. Hauxwell stepped up and pulled on the green jersey and did a sterling job. With Dean and O’Brien playing outfield, the game was evenly matched in the first half with Bradford going ahead 1-0. Late on in the game, Hot Wheels made the extra man work to their advantage; scoring two more goals, one of them, very well worked which any team would be proud of it. The end result was a 3-0 victory by Bradford.
Our second game was against Newcastle Magpies, another new team to the league with a predominantly young team. Platt was able to take to the pitch and we had all four players taking part. Newcastle played well but Darlington slowly broke their resistance, scoring a well worked goal in the first half. This was followed up with a hard fought goal by Dean in the second half. The final result was a Darlo win 2-0.
